What is the Perkins Justice Pilgrimage?

Long before “Justice” was trending and “missional” was a word, Dr. John Perkins was boldly pioneering a new movement in the Christian culture. In 1976, he published Let Justice Roll Down, a manifesto and blueprint for the Church to begin to reclaim an ancient commitment to social justice. Crafted through his own experience growing up in Mississippi and forged through suffering and imprisonment, Let Justice Roll Down has been named by Christianity Today as one of the top 25 most important books of the 21st Century.

Perkins Justice Pilgrimage, Institute on Wheels: The Perkins Foundation is committed to investing in  the lives of leaders, pastors, Sunday school groups, associations, companies, clubs, and anyone else interested in learning. Our best way of doing this is by inviting you to Jackson for a Perkins Justice Pilgrimage (PJP). Join us for life-changing dialogue, engaging bible study, and immersive learning experiences about reconciliation and justice. A spiritual pilgrimage that looks back to embrace our past and insists that our now is not separate from our then.

The  PJP allows a small group (12-20) to spend an intimate time with Dr. Perkins, the Perkins Family, and other Civil Rights and Christian Community leaders. Those in attendance will visit historic landmarks in Mississippi and beyond that helped shape the theology of Dr. Perkins and the Perkins Foundation. This will be a life-changing time for all who are able to participate!

We have currently scheduled several dates for the upcoming year. We are also available to create a custom PJP for those who are able to bring a group of 12-20 attendees. It is our hope and expectation that attendees will raise the balance of their tuition through support from friends, family, and their local church. We believe the PJP is effectively equipping attendees to become trained to live “on mission” and therefore should see this time as such.

To learn and process through the week with historical and Biblical perspectives shared through the sessions, coupled with the personal stories of those who led the trip, makes this a stand out experience that I believe every American should undertake.
